Cleaning grout and tile on a regular basis is a good idea to prolong the life of your tile and keep it looking it's best. However, certain activities can shorten the life of your tile and grout and some can even be extremely dangerous. The list of what to avoid is as follows:
Avoid using more water then you have too. Because grout can be extremely porous, you don't want to use more water then in necessary, you also don't want to leave water on the grout because it could get trapped under the tile and cause problems in the future with mold and mildew.
Tools Cleaning Home
Avoid uses ammonia and bleach and the same time, because this can create a chlorine gas which is poisonous. If you are in an enclosed area this could be hazardous to your health.
Do not use harsh chemicals when light chemicals will do. Over time harsh chemicals can damage the tile and grout and drastically cut down on its durability and lifespan.
Avoid using a coarse scrubber that can damage tile and grout. In most cases I suggest using brushes instead. They will last longer and will more effectively clean out the grout.
Avoid using a colored chemicals to clean tile. This is because it can change the color of the grout. Also I would avoid using bleach or Clorox if the grout has a non-white color to it because it could be bleached out.
After carefully cleaner the grout, it may be a good idea to use a grout sealer. Using a grout sealer can seal up the porous surfaces and make grout easier to clean in the future. A grout sealer can also keep dirt, germs and bacteria from getting stuck in the grout and thus keep your bathroom and kitchen more germ free.
