Cleaning Mold

Isn't it ironic that the place where we wash ourselves is also the place where dirt forms most frequently? We almost don't even notice the dirt until it is so dark that it's almost impossible to remove.

Yes, it is in our bathroom that mold most often appears. It is because of a lack of air. Bathrooms are almost always damp and therefore it becomes the perfect place for it to form. It can form under your sink, behind your medicine cabinet, and even right under your plunger where it is almost always neglected since it is very difficult to clean.

Tools Cleaning Home

Luckily mold is easiest to clean in the bathroom because most of our tools are at our disposal. When it forms in other rooms of the house where there is no water readily available nor cleaning supplies nearby, the task could seem more daunting.

Most households have different types of floors in each bathroom. It is important for you to find out what your floor is made of before you start trying to clean the mold. Some floors are tiled with ceramic or porcelain. Others are made of marble or crystalline. Prepare the tools you need to properly clean the type of flooring you have.

You will need:

Soap, detergent or disinfectant, a brush, a dry towel to wipe and another to dry, vinegar (do not use vinegar with marble floor and crystalline tiles) and baking soda.

You do not have to all of these tools together. Simply choose the ones you prefer. After you have everything you need, start cleaning that unwanted mold.

Before you begin cleaning, make sure you wear rubber gloves and a mask. Begin by wetting the molded surface with water. A wet surface is not only easier to clean but will also prevent scattering of the fungi, hence making it airborne. It is preferable that you use a spray bottle to do this. If you use a spray, you can focus on solely wetting the area. The wet area will loosen the mold from the surface making your job easier.

You can either choose to scrub or wipe it. If I were you, I would scrub instead of wiping. When you are scrubbing, make sure to use some elbow grease. (I.e. Use your muscles and press hard) A disinfectant is a very effective tool in cleaning mold. Disinfecting the molded surface ensures that any residue is taken off. Disinfectant will also leave a nice scent in the bathroom.

After you've cleaned up the black mess, make sure you keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't come back. Sometimes mold disappears temporarily. If it does reappear, simply repeat the above steps until it's gone for good. To avoid it in your bathroom, try to keep the bathroom dry. If water spills on the floor, dry it right away; do not let it sit for long periods of time. Also, when showering, always turn on the fan or open the windows. When you are finished showering, it is a good ideas to use a squeegee type tool to remove excess water from the shower walls.

Cleaning Your Cowboy Hat

Cowboy hats need to be cleaned to keep their appearance looking good. The cleaning depends on what type of hat you have. Hats are made of both felt, and straw. Follow the simple steps below in order to clean both of these types of hats.

First we will show you how to clean felt cowboy hats. You should spray some cornstarch on each stain that is on the hat. After doing this, you should let that sit there for a few hours. Then, brush the hat with a soft bristle brush. If you do not have this type of brush, you can also use a barely damp towel to rub the hat in a counterclockwise motion. Make sure you rub the stained areas very gently, not ruining the hat. After the stains are completely gone your hat should be looking as clean as new.

Tools Cleaning Home

Now, we will show you how to clean a straw hat. You should start by brushing the hat with a whisk broom to remove any loose dirt or dust. Then, rub the hat with a very damp towel in order to remove any remaining dirt or dust that is visible. Your hat should now be looking as good as it was when you bought it! One tip to keep in mind is make sure you store your cowboy hat in appropriate sized hatboxes to protect them from anything like dust, dirt, and also being crushed. For the most professional cleaning you should take your hat to a hat restorer. Now that your hat is clean, you are ready for your next task!

House Cleaning - Services Vary

Some assume that they cannot benefit from house cleaning services since they do not need every room in their house cleaned regularly. It is possible to request that only certain rooms be cleaned, though most people could use a full scrubbing at least once.

Some people turn down house cleaning services because they are unaware of what they include. Perhaps they assume that only the most basic duties are possible, such as straightening up and dusting. However, most professional companies actually offer a wide range of services, which means that whether you just need some dusting done, or need your entire bathroom scrubbed top to bottom, they can help. Find out what most companies in this industry offer.

Tools Cleaning Home

One of the most common needs is keeping a bathroom clean, since many people find this task overwhelming. Most house cleaning companies start this job by making sure that countertops are spotless, and that mirrors, faucets, and other metal fixtures shine. They also often wipe down the fronts of cupboards and drawers, as well as any shelving. Of course, scrubbing the bathtub, shower, and sinks is a given, as is making sure that the inside and outside of the toilet sparkle. Such tasks would take the typical homeowner hours, which is why many people would benefit from allowing a professional company to do the job instead.

Kitchens are another area of the home that are daunting when it comes to house cleaning, as they can get quite messy fast. A professional service tends to wipe down countertops and stovetops, making both gleam. They also usually ensure that not only are all the dishes clean, but the sink is also spotless. Chores that many people may rarely get around to, such as scrubbing stove drip pans and the microwave, can be done by a quality company.

Of course, all such companies also offer general tidying services for any room in the home. Dusting furniture, blinds, ceiling fans, shelves, and decorations is typical, as is polishing any glass in the home. Most companies also vacuum any carpet, and sweep and mop floors. Finally, taking out the trash and making sure furniture is free of crumbs and other debris can be expected.

Clearly, there are plenty of tasks that the average house cleaning service can do, which means that most homeowners can benefit. There are few chores that this kind of business turns down. Jobs that do not need to be done regularly can still be completed as needed, which means that homeowners do not need to pay for something that does not need to be cleaned. This kind of service can benefit anyone who does not have the time, patience, or tools needed to make sure their residence is spotless.

A Roof Cleaning Trick That Will Lower Your Costs

If you're a roof cleaning contractor that has been in the business for any length of time then you've surely had to deal with the issue of evaporating chemical.  This really isn't a problem during the cooler months, but it can be a major time and wallet killer during the hot days of July and August.  There's a way to overcome this problem, however, and it's much simpler than you might have thought.

First you should understand why this is happening.  Shingles are designed to reflect sunlight and heat away from the roof surface, thus keeping the home cooler inside.  In this process, however, a huge amount of heat builds up on the actual shingle surface.  If you've ever been cleaning a roof on a 90 degree day and have reached down to touch the roof with your hand then you know what I'm talking about.  This heat can be so intense that it's similar to a stovetop on a low setting.  What happens when you sprinkle water on a hot stove?  It evaporates in a flash.  This is exactly what is going on with your disappearing roof chemical.  On hot days most of it is probably evaporating before it even has a chance to begin cleaning the roof.

Tools Cleaning Home

As I mentioned, there is a trick to avoiding evaporation and it's an insider's secret that I'll share with you now.  Before applying chemicals to the roof, drag a garden hose up to the roof surface and spray the whole roof down with water.  Give it a very thorough soaking, and then immediately commence with chemical application.  This will effectively lower the surface temperature by a large margin so that chemical evaporation can be avoided.  Don't worry about diluting the chemical because most of the water will be gone by the time you drag the chemical hose to the roof surface and begin spraying.  Just make sure to do these two steps in quick succession because if you wait too long after applying the water the surface temperature will quickly rise again.

By utilizing this method during hot days you can save a lot of money in chemical costs, and you'll save time, too.  Applying chemical three or four times because of evaporation will be a thing of the past.  In this business it's important to learn the tips and tricks that the pros use, and I hope you'll take this one to heart.

Natural Carpet Cleaning Recipes

Some of these recipes for natural carpet cleaning products will require a bit of hunting around for obscure ingredients - try your local chemist or even ask a high school chemistry teacher where you can get them from.

Stain-removing carpet soap

Tools Cleaning Home

* 4 oz Fuller's earth

* 1 oz turpentine (preferably the plant-sourced variety; mineral turps will do instead but this does give off foul-smelling fumes and isn't as natural. This ingredient is added as a solvent, so if you can't get hold of natural plant turpentine, then you could try substituting strong alcohol, which is another natural solvent often used in cleaning products)

* 8 oz potash (aka potassium carbonate)

* ordinary soft soap, grated

Melt the soap in a double boiler or microwave set on low until it becomes gooey. Stir in the other ingredients and blend well. Store in an airtight jar. One variation on this recipe is to use soap gel instead of and make a carpet shampoo. A second variation is to add about 10-20 drops of essential oil of your choice to the ingredients.

Home-made dry cleaning carpet shampoo

This is good for using on carpets with natural fibres that have a tendency to run colour - handmade rugs from exotic places tend to fit this description.

Mix Fuller's earth and water to make a paste. Apply this paste to the spot on the carpet you want cleaned and allow it to dry in place before vacuuming off.

Carpet fragrance

Commercially produced carpet scents of the shake-on-and-vacuum-off are among some of the worst offenders for sources of household toxins - even worse than window cleaning products, as people (especially people under the age of five) often get close to the carpets and breathe them in. This recipe will have your carpets smelling nice and fresh - both by eliminating foul odours and by putting a fresh scent into your house - but without the hazardous toxins.

* 1 cup of baking soda

* 20 drops essential oil (suggested oils: lavender, lemon, neroli, grapefruit, petitgrain or cinnamon)

Blend together well and store in a screw-top jar in a dark cupboard for a week to allow the essential oils to permeate the baking soda. Sprinkle the powder as generously or as sparingly as you like over your carpets and leave it to sit for about five minutes or more to absorb any unpleasant odours. Then vacuum the powder up. As an added bonus, the scent will get blown out the back of your vacuum cleaner as you continue doing the house cleaning.

Fleas-be-gone
While regular vacuuming is your best ally against preventing fleas from infesting your pets and your furniture, sometimes you need a bit of extra help. This spray will chase the fleas away thanks to the pennyroyal. After all, the Latin name for pennyroyal is Mentha pulgefugium, which means "mint that makes fleas run away".

* 20 drops essential oil of pennyroyal

* ½ pint vinegar

* ½ pint water

Shake the ingredients together in a spray-top bottle and squirt lightly over any carpets or pet bedding you suspect to be infested. If you can't get essential oil of pennyroyal, boil the water and vinegar together and add a large bunch of fresh pennyroyal to the mixture and allow it to steep, covered, until cool. Strain and bottle, then use as normal.

Grout Cleaning - 5 Things To Avoid When Cleaning Tile and Grout

Cleaning grout and tile on a regular basis is a good idea to prolong the life of your tile and keep it looking it's best. However, certain activities can shorten the life of your tile and grout and some can even be extremely dangerous. The list of what to avoid is as follows:

Avoid using more water then you have too. Because grout can be extremely porous, you don't want to use more water then in necessary, you also don't want to leave water on the grout because it could get trapped under the tile and cause problems in the future with mold and mildew.

Tools Cleaning Home

Avoid uses ammonia and bleach and the same time, because this can create a chlorine gas which is poisonous. If you are in an enclosed area this could be hazardous to your health.

Do not use harsh chemicals when light chemicals will do. Over time harsh chemicals can damage the tile and grout and drastically cut down on its durability and lifespan.

Avoid using a coarse scrubber that can damage tile and grout. In most cases I suggest using brushes instead. They will last longer and will more effectively clean out the grout.

Avoid using a colored chemicals to clean tile. This is because it can change the color of the grout. Also I would avoid using bleach or Clorox if the grout has a non-white color to it because it could be bleached out.

After carefully cleaner the grout, it may be a good idea to use a grout sealer. Using a grout sealer can seal up the porous surfaces and make grout easier to clean in the future. A grout sealer can also keep dirt, germs and bacteria from getting stuck in the grout and thus keep your bathroom and kitchen more germ free.

A Step by Step System to Clean Your Home Like a Professional Residential House Cleaner

Having a system in place will help the average homeowner clean their home faster and more efficiently. As an owner of a large cleaning company in Ocean County NJ I've often been asked how is it that our cleaners are able to be in and out of their home in less than 2 hours. Customer's state it takes them all day on a Saturday to clean and it doesn't look half as good as the way the cleaners do it? The reality is that a professional house cleaner is in the home to do a job. Cleaners aren't distracted by request from children, the house phone ringing, the dog needing to go out and so on. If you were to be able to put all distractions aside the other reason cleaners are able to still able to move more rapidly with great quality is having the right tools and a system to follow.

Having the right tools to clean can really help in saving time and it doesn't have to cost a lot either. First you should separate the tools needed for wet areas of the home (bathroom & kitchen) and for the dry areas. A good cleaning tote that can hold your chemicals, sponges, brushes and other accessories will help. In this tote keep a few rags to use to shine, dry and buff. In a separate tote keep you dry tools such as vacuum attachments, polish spray, Windex and some microfiber cloths. A bottle with water and vinegar will also be just as efficient as polish and Windex while being better for the environment. In this bucket have a nice wooly for doing corners of walls, fans and high dusting. Lastly having two separate vacuums will really assist in better quality and faster speed. A good canister to vacuum hard surface floors, stairs, furniture and corners will be much more efficient than an upright with tools and easier to carry. You can purchase the Hoover CH30000 for less than hundred dollars and it should last forever. A powerful upright like the Hoover C1404 or Oreck XL2000 will save time in vacuuming carpet as they're strong machines that are light and easy to operate.

Tools Cleaning Home

Now that you have your tools to clean this is a quick system that should really help in reducing time and keeping your home white glove clean:

  1. Begin with you Lambswool Duster in the top floor of the home and begin going from room to room to dust all corners of walls, behind furniture, fans, high light fixtures. End in the kitchen. Doing this first allows all dust to settle. Very important when using the duster and whenever dusting to work from top to bottom to allow dust to settle. As your high dusting carry a bag to empty all trash cans.
  2. Next grab your wet tote and head off to the bathrooms. The dust has had a chance to settle. Empty everything on the floor and put it outside the door. Vacuum the floor with you small canister vacuum as this will assist when you need to scrub the floor for small hairs.
  3. Begin with the scrubbing the sink first. Then wash the mirror, counters and dry the sink. Important to follow this order as if you do the mirror first and then the sink when you're scrubbing your sink the water will go back on the mirror and you'll waste time redoing the mirror. Use a toothbrush occasionally around corners and faucets to loosen any built up dirt.
  4. Proceed to the shower area. Empty it, wash off ledges for dust to fall to bottom and if you have shower doors get inside the tub to do them first. Proceed then by scrubbing the walls, faucet and basin. Dry and clean outside bottom basin or shower door.
  5. Proceed to all fixtures on the walls to dust and wipe down.
  6. Proceed to the toilet to scrub inside bowl and outside. Again use a toothbrush around corners. Don't forget to dust toilet tissue holder.
  7. Wipe down all doors
  8. Lastly wipe floor from furthest point toward door. Use a scrub brush occasionally to loosen up dirt and for larger floors a good deck brush will speed the process.
  9. Head to next bathroom and powder room following same system. When complete leave the wet tote in the kitchen and head back to bedroom areas with your dry tote.
  10. Begin dusting the rooms moving left to right and top to bottom. Move around each room lifting everything possible to remove all dust. Dust each floor and then take your small canister vacuum to vacuum in areas that the larger vacuum can't reach. Every other month try to wipe all baseboards with a damp cloth and crevice the corners with the vacuum to prevent dust buildup. Take the upright vacuum out to complete the vacuuming for that level of the house. If hard surfaces throughout home, small vacuuming the floor under beds and then mop.
  11. Follow same procedure now in all living areas. Dust first the entire living area again left to right top to bottom. Finish off with vacuuming. Every other month try to vacuum furniture and under cushions.
  12. Head off to the kitchen for completion.
  13. Every other month begin with wiping down kitchen cabinets.
  14. Head to the stove to clean. If the microwave is above the stove wipe it down first so as debris falls it isn't going on a stove already cleaned. If filters under microwave take out every other month to wipe and clean. This helps the fan work better when cooking. Wipe down stove and take off knobs if possible to clean and soak if necessary.
  15. Next wipe all counters down moving everything to get behind that is possible. Clean toaster, spice racks, front of refrigerator (grill also) by wiping down. Also wipe down tables and chairs.
  16. Fill mopping bucket and then clean your sink. Again use a toothbrush periodically to loosen dirt. Dry sink.
  17. Vacuum kitchen floor
  18. Mop the floor from furthest corner to the exit area. Empty bucket in slop sink and clean. Head back to put everything back and you're complete!

Following this system should save a tremendous amount of time and assist in having a clean home all the time. As for following a schedule for when to give extra attention to different areas of the home divide the home into four different cleaning zones:

  1. Living Area
  2. Bathroom Area
  3. Sleeping Area
  4. Kitchen Area

Each clean try to pay extra attention to these area's and you'll notice you're cleaning like a professional at top speeds! If this doesn't work you can always contact The Cleaning Authority of south Jersey or any other around the country and enjoy your free time!

Anyways, there are lots of ways that people employ to remove rust from chrome body - for example, car bumper, bicycle, etc. If some people are happy with the use of regular chrome polish, some people are happy with steel wool to remove rust from chrome. Most of them have their own reasons to show.

Tools Cleaning Home

So, what is your take at this point? If you are not sure what people really try to clean chrome parts, let's take a look at the following paragraphs. Apart from giving you some real life ideas, it may also help you to decide what you need to do.

Chrome polish and rag: This is one of the most popular ways to clean rust from chrome products. However, it is often used in less expensive products of daily wear and tear. For example this is used to clean rust from car bumpers or bicycles. And it is used when the amount of rust is not too high or when they have not damaged the metal a lot. However, you would need to polish the chrome well after cleaning it. Some people do not like the idea as it is sometimes too laborious and the output is not always very exciting.

Naval Jelly: Some people would use it to clean rust from chrome elements and some people are against it for their own reasons. However, it does not suit every metal and may cause harm.

WD 40: People sometimes use it to clean rust from iron products like cast iron. You would need to hose the cast iron product with WD 40 and leave things as it is for around 10 to 15 minutes. After that you would need to hose it again and scrub the metal with steel wool with more amount of WD 40 to clean it properly. However, after cleaning you would need to work hard to dry the metal element or it may get rust again.

Steal Wool: A lot of people will agree that steel wool is just the perfect thing to remove rust from any metal surface. They would manage and time and strength to rub the rust until it is clean. How Can I Clean My Air Ducts Myself?

An ordinary question that is asked by many people who are worried about the hygiene of their air ducts in their home. It is a rather straightforward and simple to follow task to do when doing it yourself, as cleaning air ducts in your house hold is something you will want to know how to do should you not want to spend money on the cost for hiring a duct cleaning company or air duct cleaning equipment. So the answer to the question can I clean my air ducts myself is an uncomplicated yes.

Can I clean my air ducts myself? The answer is yes. As time goes by, the air ducts that you have in your home will increase with fragments, mold and dirt. The elimination of these unnecessary contaminants will make sure that you give your house hold cleaner air as well as to make the cooling and heating systems in your house hold run much more competently. This job would be best suited for the expert companies who would have the essential equipment for doing such a job, but it can be done by yourself, which would lead to you having some added benefits as well as the likelihood to save on the cost when going DIY. When you want to start cleaning ducts, there are a small amount of things you need to do in order for you to do this DIY task in the approved manner.

Tools Cleaning Home

The initial thing you will need to do when you clean your ducts is to slice open two access panels so you can simply reach the areas you need to clean. You will have to cut one access panel at the face of your duct in the main supply line and the second breach should be near the main return line which is generally situated at the rear near the furnace. After that you will have to fasten a specifically made, high powered vacuum system in to the holes that you have made. But you have to make sure that you fit the nozzle in to the gaps properly and firmly, as to prevent any dust, mold and or debris from diminishing out.

Next you will need to fasten up all the vents in your house hold to avert any contaminants from escaping into your clean air. Once you have ensured all the vents are potted, you can power up the special vacuum, which creates a negative pressure in your duct system that starts the air vent cleaning process. Once the vacuum is running, you will have to open each vent individually in order to contact its ductwork. Then you must clean all the contaminants from the ductwork back towards the furnace by the means of air powered hoses. Lastly, you must take away the vacuum's nozzle and reseal the breaks.

There are a lot of benefits in knowing how to clean your own air ducts, as air conditioner duct cleaning services can be rather costly. The answer to can I clean my air ducts myself is now an answer you will know.

Chemical Free House Cleaning Tips That Don't Require Cleaning Products

After spending money on mortgages or rent, utilities, or other bills, it's nice to take whatever's left over and spend it on fun things with your family, rather than using your money up on chemicals to clean your home, yet dry out your skin and make you breathe in toxins.

That's why it's a good ideas to start using these nifty house cleaning tips that require no cleaning products with chemicals.

Tools Cleaning Home

For dirty pans with stuck on food - reheat them up with water in them first, then wipe the dirt right off.

For silver - clean with baking soda, rather than toxic pastes.

Lose the sponge - And the mop. They are a pietrie dish for germs. Use wash rags instead, which you can wash end reuse again and again.

If you're not into the whole chemical free products idea, you can still save money on cleaning products if you work for an establishment that orders them in bulk. I work at an ice cream shop, and just buy toilet paper, dish washing fluid, garbage bags, and paper towels from the store any time they get a shipment in. I save a ton of money doing it that way. I could also buy my milk from them and save money that way, too.

But, if you are into house cleaning tips that don't require expensive cleaning products with chemicals, then take my advice. Other good natural cleaning agents that a friend of mine suggested are milk for blood stains, or lemon juice and vinegar for glass.

How to Clean Silver With Baking Soda

Silver is a really nice soft and warm metal. A favorite for jewelery and trinkets all over the world. It is such a shame it tarnishes so easily. All the experts will tell you to store silver in acid free cloth or tissue paper to keep it tarnish free. But back in the real world most of us don't like to lock things away. We would rather use our best cutlery if we're lucky enough to have some. Jewelery is for wearing, handling and often leaving hanging around the house.

Silver will get tarnished, its a fact of life. But its not a fact to lose sleep over. This metal is simple to clean. You do not need to rush out and buy special cleaning kits or metal polishing cloths either. Nearly all silver can be cleaned at home with a few simple items. I hope you find these silver cleaning tips useful.

Tools Cleaning Home

A note of warning: any polishing of silver should be kept to a minimum. This is a soft metal and polishing will remove a tiny amount of the actual silver from the surface of your item. Over time this can have a noticeable effect, with a real 'worn' appearance. So don't go mad with that cloth. Keep all polishing gentle please!

How to Clean Tarnished Silver

Firstly silver tarnish is often surprisingly easy to remove simply with a soft cloth and a little time. You don't need to rub hard to remove the tarnish. Cleaning with a microfiber cloth is a great idea as microfiber cloths are gentle and do not leave any 'bits' behind. You'll quickly see the dark tarnish transfer from the silver to the cloth. When you've finished you can put the cloth into the washing machine so it can be cleaned and used again.

For very tarnished or ornate silver with nooks and crannies your cloth won't reach you will need a slightly more technical approach. There still is no need to reach for the chemical cleaners though.

Tough Silver Tarnish Remover

* Glass or Plastic Bowl

* Aluminum Foil

* Salt

* Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda or Bicarb)

Simply put a sheet of aluminum foil in the bottom of a glass (or plastic) bowl. Add your pieces of tarnished silver. Sprinkle on some salt and bicarbonate of soda (I'd use a tablespoon of each in a medium sized bowl). Add hot water. You will hear sizzling and the tarnish will be absorbed into the water then deposited onto the foil. It is electrolysis in action.

Don't lean to close over the bowl as the fumes are toxic.

Cleaning silver with foil and soda is really quick and easy. But don't do it too often or if not really necessary as you will over time, wear away your silver.

Which Type of Home Carpet Cleaning Machine is Right For You?

Regardless of where you live or the style of home you have, all carpets eventually get dirty and need to be cleaned. One of the options you have in bringing them back to looking new again is by using a carpet cleaning machine. But which type of machine is right for your particular needs? Here's a look.

The first thing you'll want to do before buying a carpet cleaner is to consider how you plan on using it. What I mean by that is are you simply looking for a cleaner that will get up every day pet messes, spills or other types of accidents that happen from time to time? Or do you want a machine to deep clean carpets throughout your home? Or perhaps you only need one for carpets that don't see a lot of foot traffic, but you want to keep them fresh and clean during the year?

Tools Cleaning Home

Each of these options has their own type of carpet cleaners made for them. For spot cleanups such as a pet accident or a drink that is spilled over, a little hand held cleaner can work great. These machines are quick and easy to use and store in a very small area in your closet for when you need them again. No, they do not do the job of a bigger cleaner, but they work well in these instances. Another nice aspect is that you can usually find them for less than online.

For occasional cleaning of carpets that don't see a lot of traffic, an upright carpet cleaner or a stick cleaner as they are also known as. They are simple to set up and use ordinary tap water along with a carpet cleaning detergent to give your carpets a fresh look.

Finally, for homes that need deep cleaning of their carpet due to high traffic from family use, pets, etc., a deep cleaning carpet machine is your best solution. This type of machine may have dual water tanks for clean and dirty water, an on-board heater to help in providing hot water cleaning, more powerful motors for both sucking up the water/solution mix as well as a drying mechanism. Most of these will also have a variety of attachments for cleaning furniture, car interiors and more in addition to regular carpet use.

Once you know your needs, it is much easier to decide on a particular machine to purchase.

Home Colon Cleanse - 3 Ways to Clean Your Insides Naturally and Safely

Doing a home colon cleanse is a lot more comfortable than going to a clinic. This is probably the main reason why people are buying home colon cleanse products like crazy now. You have to realize something though, there are a lot of products that do not work out there, so educating yourself is the first step you should take.

With that said, I don't want you to get scared, I just want you to realize what is going on out there. This is natural and happens often when a new health market explodes. When demand grows many businesses that want to make a quick profit try to jump in.

Tools Cleaning Home

The good news is that they are easy to avoid. Let's jump right into the meat here! There are many ways you can do a home colon cleanse, but here are just three effective ones that you can start with.

1. Food is the slowest and safest way to do a home colon cleanse. You can use foods such as blueberries, figs, lemons, cranberries and plums. They are very effective in cleansing your colon and increasing the nutrients in your body.

2. Enemas are for the brave. They were very popular in the old days, but not so much anymore. They basically consist of buying a bag and a hose that you then introduce to your rectum. You then allow water to flow which cleanses your colon very well. You have to be careful with this though, make sure you know what you are doing.

3. Herbal Products are extremely effective and safe these days. A good herbal colon cleansing product will contain ingredients such as olive leaf extract, senna, slippery elm and bentonite clay. These are very effective. I am particularly excited about bentonite clay because it has been used for centuries to absorb toxins and waste within your body.

PC Tools Registry Cleaner Exposed!

Over time, when using your computer the registry expands as you install or uninstall products. When you remove products you are not sure if its entire registry entries are deleted when it does the entire registry is not totally deleted but it is only left to be empty. And when this happens for a long period of time and no maintenance is made the registry can be fragmented because of the empty registries.

Registry cleaners have become popular and are one of the needed utility tools in our computer. Registry cleaners do not simply clean out the registry but it also delete unnecessary files such as cookies, temporary internet files and even invalid registry entries. There are a lot of registry cleaners that are either available for free or for purchase. One of the highest rated and reviewed registry cleaner is Pc Tools registry cleaner. It has been stated in some reviews that it is able to repair broken registry links. The registry errors can cause the computer to slow down because it still has to check an empty registry which is not supposed to.

Tools Cleaning Home

This type of cleaner first asks you to backup the registry so in case something goes wrong like accidentally deleting a registry entry then you can restore your original registry. Then it will can the entire registry and this might take several minutes depending on how many software applications was installed and removed from the computer. Once the scan is finished it will display the scan results in a list. There are comments for each registry scanned it can either tell you if the found registry is empty, invalid or valid. The option to delete registry entries is the decision of the user. Though, when you are still using the trial version of the Pc Tools registry cleaner you are only allowed to delete 20 entries. When you want to delete more than 2 registry entries then you have to register or purchase the Pc Tool registry cleaner.

You can also change the settings on how the Pc Tool registry cleaner will deal with the registry entries it has found. This cleaner can delete the registry entries automatically after scanning. And before it repairs the registry it will automatically back up the registry. This cleaner also checks if there is a newer update of the software. If a newer version exists it will automatically update itself. If you are not sure you want to delete a registry entry an "ignore" button is available or you can right-click on an entry then you can choose to add it on the ignore list. Aside from creating registry backup the this registry cleaner is able to create a restore point which works like the Windows System Restore utility.

If you are dealing with virus problems there are a lot of free antivirus protection that can do the trick. But if you are dealing with the registry then you should not just pick out a free registry cleaner online then test if it can solve the problem, one tiny mistake in deleting a registry entry can cause the system to crash. Home Steam Carpet Cleaners

Home Steam Cleaning Machine as opposed to a portable unit.

One thing all home steam carpet cleaners all do is they heat water to create the steam that cleans. An upright machine is better for cleaning larger surfaces and the canister is better for smaller areas along with vehicles and furniture. The majority of the upright water tanks hold about one gallon of water. The canister style holds more than one gallon on average. Many models come with different attachments for cleaning automobiles, stairs and furniture.

Tools Cleaning Home

A new type of home steam carpet cleaner is the vapor steam cleaner. It apparently is more efficient due to modifications to the design. Some of the features include:

o Self sufficient

o Has it's own heater, tank and container

o Vapor particles are smaller than steam particles thus it dries faster

o Heats water to very high temperatures

Before making a purchase, it is recommended that you do plenty of research including using the internet. There are consumer reports available to provide all the necessary information needed to make an informed decision on which type of home steam carpet cleaners to purchase.

What You Need To Know About Cleaning Wood Window Blinds

Having wood window blinds adds beauty and elegance to any home interior, but at the same time they will also need to be cleaned on a periodic basis. While this may seem to some to be an overwhelming chore, it really doesn't have to be that bad. Here are some good tips to help you in cleaning your wood window blinds.

Cleaning Wood Window Blinds

Tools Cleaning Home

Vacuum - You can use your vacuum cleaner with the small round brush attachment. It works quite well on your blinds while they remain hanging in place.

Feather Duster - Another good tool to use in cleaning your blinds

Soft Cloth or Mitt - Using a dust mitt or a soft dusting cloth is usually your best bet in cleaning wood blinds. It allows you to have more control and can be much quicker than a vacuum.

Damp Cloth - I mention this here, but only with caution. There are a few makes of wood window blinds that can be cleaned with a VERY lightly damp cloth. Be sure to check your manufacturer's instructions before doing so.

Dryer Softener Sheets - On most wood blinds, once cleaned, you can wipe them off with a dryer sheet and this will help repel dust in the future. This can work pretty well in extending the times between cleaning.

Furniture Polish - You can use a no-wax furniture polish on your wood blinds as well. I would recommend you only do this 1-2 times a year though. It is a great way to bring out the natural beauty of the wood.

What Not To Do In Cleaning Wood Blinds

When it comes to cleaning wood there is one thing you never want to do. Don't use any type of soap and water on your blinds or you risk ruining your blinds permanently. The wood will begin warping and bending out of shape in no time flat.

Wood window blinds are really pretty easy to keep clean. Keeping them clean will ensure you of a lifetime of beauty and elegance.

How To Properly Clean Window Screens

There are a number of different ways to clean screens. Generally, you would take them off, stack them against a tree or the side of the house and proceed to clean the windows. Once that portion of the project is done, you need to clean the screens. Try any one of these methods:

1. If they are not that dirty, you can rinse them with a hose. This will remove any dust that has accumulated in the screen itself. Be sure to rinse from both sides. In Southern, desert states the screens just get very dusty. This method generally does not work in other climates as well.

Tools Cleaning Home

2. If your screen needs a more attentive cleaning (and most do), you can soap it done with a wetter or sponge, wiping the frame in the process. This should remove most of the stuck on debris including leaves and cobwebs. Wash both sides and rinse with hose.

3. Some screens are very fragile and need a gentler touch. Try using a soft bristle or horse hair brush. Lightly brush the screen and the frame to remove dirt. Replacement parts are not available for screens on older homes and breaking one of these older screens, whether on the job or at your own house, can lead to a big headache.

4. Products such as Winsol and Magic Screen are available as well. They make the process very quick and easy. Spray the screen thoroughly after removing them, clean the windows and, (magically) when you return, they will have cleaned themselves. Actually the product dissolves and rinses off any dirt, debris and general goo. In fact, many window cleaners swear by this product but it can be expensive for daily use. Extreme heat may cause the product to dry to quickly however so try to work in the cooler morning hours.

The important thing to remember about bug screens is that they are a disposable item. They do not last as long as the windows they come and are not meant to. Frames bend out of position; plastic clips break and get lost in the bushes. Even the screening material is susceptible to damage from kids and pets. They can get dented, torn or completely ripped out of the frame. Eventually, over time, they won't come clean any longer. It is just the nature of the product. Most screens are just a fabric left exposed to the elements. Replacement screening material and tools for the job are available at your local hardware store.

Good luck with getting your screens cleaned. Hopefully the information helped.

Mildew often lives on shower walls, window sills, shower door tracks, shower curtains, grout near bathtubs and other places where moisture levels are high.

Mold and Mildew is a fungus that grows in moist and warm environments.

Tools Cleaning Home

Mold and Mildew can be identified by its color.

Make Your Cleaning Easier With a House Cleaning Schedule

If you often find yourself stressing over what household duties need to be taken care of and when, then a house cleaning schedule is surely what you need! Not only do cleaning schedules help us to stay on track, but they are a great tool used for effective organization. Cleaning schedules make not only our lives simpler and easier by showing us what to focus on and when, but aids the process of cleaning and moves it along faster in more effective ways.

The first step into creating an effective cleaning schedule is to first have the time to sit down and organize yourself properly. If you're trying to do this on this fly-by chances are you won't be able to cover everything, and it won't be as effective. Make sure that you have plenty of time to sit down, without any disturbances, and plot out all cleaning duties that your household requires.

Tools Cleaning Home

Next you want to list all your cleaning tasks according to their "type". List all Bathroom duties under a bathroom header. List all kitchen duties under a kitchen header. And repeat the process for all areas of the house so you can get a bird's eye view of everything that needs cleaning. By this step we're already making a lot of progress. Instead of trying to remember what needs cleaning, you now have a guide that shows you exactly what needs cleaning.

The next step is to organize all of this information according to priority. You do this by labeling next to each task whether it's something that needs to be taken care of on a daily basis, a weekly basis, a monthly basis, a semi-annual basis, or a yearly basis. Not only will you not have to remember what needs to be cleaned, you now no longer have to remember when it needs to be cleaned!

Next we want to focus on putting the final touches to our cleaning schedule. What we want to do here is to separate our daily cleaning tasks from our weekly cleaning tasks, our weekly from our monthly, monthly from semi-annually, and semi-annually from yearly. Now that everything has been separated, create a chart that has these periods of time labeled clearly. Place all cleaning tasks that need to be handled on a daily basis under the "Daily" category, and repeat this process for weekly, monthly, and so on.

The only down turn that we may face is that we either forget to use our schedule, stay with it on a consistent basis, or are just to pressed for time to even use it. If the main problems we face are time restraints, then the best solution is to go over your schedule and make any and all necessary adjustments to fit your personal situation. You want to be able to use your schedule easily and comfortably, and doing so when pressed for time does not make things easier.

Now that our cleaning schedule has officially been completed it's ready for use. To remember your schedule, take it and place it in areas of the house where you are going to see it and remember it. If we can remember our cleaning schedule and use it, drastic changes have the potential to take place in our lives. As long as we stay consistent with ourselves and our cleaning duties, using a cleaning schedule will not only make cleaning house easier but our lives easier as well.

How to Choose a Great Home Cleaning Service and Ensure You Get Top Notch Service

Okay, so you are ready for a service to clean your home. Good for you! But, in addition to wanting top-notch service at a fair price, you may ask: "How can I trust someone in my home, or better yet, with a key to my house?"

The demand for professional home cleaning services continues to grow. More and more people are realizing that outsourcing these, sometimes less than desirable tasks, can have a great return on investment. Often, the biggest pay off for hiring a home cleaning service is not just the time you are not cleaning, but the total time - and energy- you reclaim formerly spent dreading or avoiding cleaning.

Tools Cleaning Home

Hiring a service to clean your home is a big decision, with many considerations. Trust is vital since it is, after all, your personal space. All too often customers are not asking the right questions or doing their homework.

Two Big Issues
Deal with a professional company - There are many persons or "private parties" that will clean your home and may do a good job. However, if you hire an individual rather than a company to clean your home and pay them a certain amount in a year; you are their employer. If they fail to pay proper taxes on the money you pay them, you could end up being liable (not to mention the next time you are up for a cabinet position, this is sure to end up all over CNN!) Also, if someone comes into your home to work for you, and is hurt or injured, you could be liable.

When you hire a professional maid service, you are, ideally, avoiding all these risks. The service owner should carry the burden of payroll taxes, Worker's Compensation, and liability insurance. A professional service will also offer training for their employees. All of the risk and liability is no longer your responsibility as the customer. That kind of peace of mind is worth an extra . Isn't it?

Go for professional, but not on image alone - Just because a business has glossy business cards, and a Web site that rivals Microsoft, you still need to do your homework. Keep these questions in mind when making your decision on which cleaning company to hire:

1. Who will be cleaning my house? Do they use employees or independent contractors? Whatever the answer is, you need reassurance that you are getting the protections that should come with a professional service. Do they use individuals or teams? Ask them why they use the model they do. Different business models work for different reasons. Just be sure the company you want to hire is doing it for the right reasons. The IRS has a useful guide on their Web site to determine what defines an employee and independent contractor relationship.

2. Do they perform criminal background checks and pre-screen employees? Every service should have a policy for background checks and pre-screening employees. With today's technology, even the smallest company has access to low cost tools over the Internet. You will want to know the policy they follow and what their process is for due diligence when hiring.

3. Are they properly insured? Insurance includes general liability insurance and Workers Compensation. It does not hurt to ask for a copy of insurance certificates. As much as insurance costs, they should be more than happy to show it to you.

4. Do they offer a satisfaction guarantee? What does it entail? How long after the service is performed, do I have to call to report problems that need to be addressed? No matter how good a service is, or how great the employee training program, it is imperfect human beings cleaning the house. As the customer, you should have reassurance that if the team has a "bad day", the company will make it right.

5. Who will have the key to my house? What is the policy? How can I be sure I am safe? This should be a huge concern, and most customers don't think to ask this question. Are the keys signed out each day? How are the keys kept at other times? Where are they kept? Are they locked up? Who is responsible for them? If they were to be lost or stolen, are there any markings that identify where they go? Make sure there is nothing to identify your address on the key. Also, ask up front, in the event the key is lost or stolen, what is the replace / re-key policy?

6. "Are you bonded?" Please don't ask this, and tell all of your friends, family, and loved ones that this is not the question to ask. All joking aside, don't even bother asking this. It really means nothing except in extreme cases. How a bond works is that it is purchased (it is not insurance, but insurance agents issue them) usually for as little as 0 a year for a small company. Why is a bond so cheap? They are low in price because there are rarely any claims paid out on them. A bond will pay if an employee is caught stealing, is tried, and convicted. In the days before the information superhighway, thoroughly checking into a person's background was beyond the means of most small companies. In years past, the hiring process was hard to navigate and "situations" would occur. With all of the tools available today, every small business owner has easy access to evaluate whom they are hiring to clean your home. With that being said, most home cleaning companies go ahead and buy the bond just simply because it is easier to spend the 0 bucks a year and politely answer when asked, "yes we are bonded", rather than going into the above narrative. Also, just imagine how cool you will look when you are in a group discussing this at the cocktail party, when the subject of cleaning services comes up!

7. Are you both on the same page? All too often, the culprit of the cleaning service-customer relationship going south is a lack of communication. An astute cleaning service owner should walk you through what their service will do for you and your home and give you a clear picture of what you can expect. Be sure that you pay attention to what they tell you. Better yet, perhaps they have flashy print materials that also convey what their service can offer you. Everyone has their "hot buttons" (what clean means to them); what one person thinks is clean may not be "clean" to another person. It's just human nature. For some people it is the bed made just the right way; for others, it is a clean sink. Figure out where you fall from one end to the other in the spectrum of being picky. If what really matters to you is not being done, bring it up. You should not simply assume that it will be done and that they should "just know".

8. What should I do if I am not happy with the service I receive? Perhaps it is not until the first, second, or third cleaning that you discover what your cleaning "hot buttons" are. (Side note: pay attention to what these are. It can save you YEARS of therapy if you pay close attention to what they are).

I hope that some of these discoveries will be good things your professional cleaning team has done that you did not expect to impact you the way they did. However, if you find "things" that grate your nerves, you should address them. Make sure it was not simply the day at the office that is affecting your perspective. CALL, express your concerns to the owner/ manager. Believe it or not, the most successful service owners APPRECIATE and welcome constructive criticism. It is the best way to build a better business, and professionals will see your input as a gift. If it is something small, let it slide until the next visit. If it does matter to you, then ask that they send the team back to correct it. They should be happy to do so as soon as reasonably possible. Remember, this is an intimate relationship and relationships require communication; relationships without communication fail!

Now you know what to ask (and you have a few other unsolicited pieces of life changing advice to boot). Ask the right questions; receive the great service you need and enjoy. It is sure to add to the quality of your life. A little insight: the best days will be when you forget the cleaning team is coming and you come home to a clean fresh smelling home ... Nice!

Carpet Cleaning - DIY Steam Cleaning Vs Professional Steam Cleaning

When it's time to clean the carpet in the house, we all labor over the do it yourself steam cleaning that you can rent at the store, or hiring a professional. We believe that we can get better results from hiring a professional steam cleaner but that is not always true.

Some carpet cleaning companies have a high turnover of staff. Some carpet cleaning technicians do not have the proper training in using the equipment. They also do not have the proper training in spot removal techniques.

Tools Cleaning Home

Whether you hire a professional or whether you do it yourself the most important thing to remember is to go slow enough that you remove as much water as you can. If there is too much water left in the carpet, there is a risk that you damage the carpet but the risk to your health is much greater.

If too much water is put into the carpet it goes straight to the under pad. When this happens there is a danger that mold and mildew will form. Due to the sponge like texture of the under pad the the only way it can be properly dried is if it is lifted from the floor and air is able to circulate under the carpet. When mold and mildew start to form that is where the health risks begin.

The EPA recommends that people avoid mold and mildew in their homes, especially if any member of the family has a respiratory illness such as asthma. Mold and mildew can stress the lungs and in people with asthma, it can trigger an asthma attack. In children who don't have asthma it is possible to distress the lungs and cause illnesses like bronchitis and asthma.

When you are steam cleaning the carpets it is difficult to tell if you are adding too much water. Going over one area of the carpet too many times will put too much moisture into the carpet. Stains can be stubborn to remove and it is the first instinct to add more water and keep trying, but that is not the answer. Professionals do use the steam more on those areas but their success lies in the knowledge of how to use the equipment as well as the selection of professional chemicals they use for stain removal.

Many people when they rent the do it yourself steam cleaners, if also buy the bottle of shampoo to clean the carpets as well. One of the major problems with that is the concentration and strength of that product is not very powerful. The reason it is made weaker is that the manufacturer assumes that consumers will not use it properly, and they do not want to be responsible for you damaging your carpet with their product, so it is diluted. There is not one cleaner that can remove all stains. When you hire a professional carpet cleaner they often show up with an assortment of different bottles and each one has a solution for a different stain one cleaner does not clean all carpets.

It is tempting to save a couple dollars and steam clean the carpets yourself, but the damage that you can cause your carpets could cost you thousands of dollars. Rippling carpets, faded color patches, damaged carpet fibers and worst of all mold, are all common problems people experience when they attempt to steam clean their own carpet. Just remember when you are deciding whether or not to hire professional carpet cleaner, the least expensive way is not always the cheapest!

How to Clean Your 925 Silver Jewelry With a Home Made Paste

I remember the hustle and bustle of the holiday season at my childhood home in Maine and believe it or not, one of my favorite things to do was polish silver. I only got to see the beautiful gleam of the candelabras, serving dishes and flatware on Thanksgiving and Christmas and I always made sure everything sparkled. That's when I discovered that Sterling jewelry would polish up beautifully using the same home made recipe our family always used.

First of all, be careful where you purchase your jewelry because there are a lot of sites out there who claim they sell pure 925 Sterling jewelry. I have heard of more than one bad experience buying from an eBay seller who's jewelry was only 40% silver and filled with who knows what? I've even evaluated some of the cheaper priced and more famous site's silver content and been very disappointed by deliberate misrepresentation. If it's too good a deal....it's not a deal at all. You get what you pay for. Chances are if your jewelry won't polish up well, it's not pure 92.5% silver.

Tools Cleaning Home

This is the very best silver polish out there.

Make a paste with Baking Soda and Water the consistence of any polish. Rub the jewelry all over with the paste and a soft cloth. Rinse with warm water and dry with a lint free rag. Who'd have guessed?

Sometimes when a neck chain is worn a long time, it becomes almost impossible to get the tarnish out. I recommend a toothbrush and some elbow grease.

If that doesn't work, don't give up. Try this:

In a stainless or glass saucepan, boil 2 -3 cups water with a heaping tablespoon of baking soda and make a small loose ball with aluminum foil and drop it in. Add your silver jewelry and swirl around in the boiling water for about 20 seconds, remove and dry.

Never try to clean your silver with diamond or gold cleaning solutions.

Don't shower or bathe with your jewelry on. Don't jump in the ocean either. Salt water can put permanent spots into silver so NEVER expose your good jewelry to it.

Last but not least, polishing silver is good for your psyche so enjoy yourself!
